FO Wave is going to be launching via the website Kickstarter. If you are unaware of what this is or how it all works, read on!
Kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com) is a crowdfunding website designed as a method for product designers to bring their ideas to life. It is regularly utilised as a way of launching new tabletop games. Manufacturers only create games in bulk, which allows the costs to be reduced to an affordable level. Therefore, in order to make a new game, a large sum of money is usually required. The creators behind UFO Wave at Paradigm Games do not have this money to put down directly. This is where Kickstarter comes in.
The campaign for UFO Wave has been scheduled to run from 12:00 GMT on Thursday 29th July to Saturday 28th August. During this period you’ll be able to visit the campaign page and see lots of information about the game. You’ll also be given the chance to make a pledge. This is essentially a promise that if the game is successfully funded you will back it. At the end of the campaign period if enough people have made a pledge then the money will be collected from you and all the other backers at once. If not the campaign will be considered a failure and no money will be taken off anyone.
You’ll be able to pledge at a number of different levels, called Rewards. These are listed out on the campaign page. There will be an optional play mat, discounts for multiple purchases and even an option for a customizable box. If you’re fast you may even be able to scoop one of the limited early bird discount rewards! Simply choose your preferred pledge level at the right hand side of the page.
If the funding goal for the campaign is reached before the end of the campaign period, stretch goals will start to unlock. These are additional bonus freebies which are only obtainable via the Kickstarter. The more people who back the game from this point, the more stretch goals will unlock!
If the campaign is successful then at the end of the campaign period the money will be collected off all the backers and sent directly to Paradigm Games, who will then get the game manufactured and shipped out to everyone as soon as possible. This will usually take a number of months. We aim to have the game with everyone before Christmas.

At present you’ll only be able to see a preview image and short blurb. However at 12:00 GMT on 29th July the page will fully open up. You’ll be able to see the official launch video, information about the game, reviewer comments, play test videos and more.
Right now you can click the Notify button on the page to receive an official E-Mail when it launches. If you’ve not used Kickstarter before you’ll be asked to set up an account at this point.
It may be tempting to wait until the game is available to purchase normally, but this relies on it existing in the first place. Therefore Paradigm Games ask that if you’re interested in the game, either for yourself or to purchase as a gift, you do so by backing it on Kickstarter.
